ASCE Mexico Recognition
ASCE Mexico documents recognitions earned by student chapters, teams and individuals in civil engineering, leadership and service.
2022
• The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México earned first place overall in the ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition.
• The UNAM Student Chapter was named Distinguished Chapter for Region 6.
• UNAM was a finalist for the Robert Ridgway Award.
2024
• Valeria Núñez Cantú received New Faces of Civil Engineering: Collegiate recognition and the Student Leadership Award.
2025
• Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México earned first place nationally for lightness and third place for aesthetics in the Student Steel Bridge Competition.
• The UNAM Student Chapter received Distinguished Chapter recognition for Region 6. Tecnológico de Monterrey and Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México received Honorable Mention.
Chapter distinctions
Distinguished Chapter, Honorable Mention and Certificate of Commendation recognize student chapter performance. Competition results are reported separately from chapter awards so that each achievement is described accurately.

2026 · UNAM was recognized as a Region 6 Distinguished Chapter and Honorable Mention, and as a Richard J. Scranton Community Service Award finalist; Tecnológico de Monterrey received Honorable Mention.

Chapter awards
ASCE recognizes sustained student chapter work through awards including Distinguished Chapter, Honorable Mention and Certificate of Commendation. This page presents each result separately with the year that supports it.
Competition results
Mexican teams also earn results in design and construction competitions. UNAM’s first place in Sustainable Solutions 2022 and the verified Frontier 2026 results are competition results, reported separately from annual chapter awards.

2024 | Student Steel Bridge: Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara
2024 ASCE Region 6 Student Steel Bridge Competition. 1st Place Overall. Additional results: 1st Place — Construction Speed; 1st Place — Stiffness; 1st Place — Construction Economy; 2nd Place — Structural Efficiency; and 3rd Place — Cost Estimation.
2025 | Student Steel Bridge: Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara
2025 Frontier Regional Competition — Student Steel Bridge Competition. 1st Place Overall. The team also earned first place in Construction Speed, Structural Efficiency, Cost Estimation, Construction Economy and Stiffness.
2026 | Frontier Student Symposium
Student Steel Bridge — UAEMex: 1st Place Overall; 1st in Construction Speed, Lightness, Stiffness, Cost Estimate, Construction Economy and Structural Efficiency; 3rd in Aesthetics. UNAM: 3rd Place Overall; 2nd in Lightness and Structural Efficiency. Overall: Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara 11th, Tecnológico de Monterrey 12th and Universidad La Salle 13th.
Paper Competition — Tecnológico de Monterrey 2nd; UNAM 7th; Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara 8th; UAEMex 12th; Universidad La Salle 13th; Universidad de Sonora 22nd.
Timber-Strong — Tecnológico de Monterrey received an Honorable Mention and placed 4th Overall.
Concrete Canoe — UAEMex placed 4th Overall, 3rd in Final Product Prototype, 2nd in Men’s Final Sprints and 2nd in Coed Final Sprints, and ranked 1st in total race points. Tecnológico de Monterrey placed 9th Overall.

2026 | Mexican student chapter awards
In the ASCE Region 6 2026 Student Chapter Health Report, based on the 2025 Annual Reports, UNAM was recognized as a Distinguished Chapter and received Honorable Mention; it was also named a finalist for the Richard J. Scranton Community Service Award. Tecnológico de Monterrey received Honorable Mention.

A community that enables new achievements
Student achievements grow through collaboration among chapters, faculty and professionals. ASCE Mexico Section activities create spaces to share experience and strengthen that community.
Recognized finalist teams
The archive graphic identifies recognitions presented by the ASCE Mexico Section to finalist teams. Each result must retain its exact designation: being a finalist is not the same as earning first place.
UNAM | Region 6 Distinguished Chapter (2022)
The historical plaque recognizes the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México as ASCE Region 6 Distinguished Chapter in 2022. The recognition belongs to its student chapter.
UNAM | Robert Ridgway Award Finalist (2022)
The ASCE plaque preserved on the site recognizes the UNAM student chapter as a 2022 Robert Ridgway Award Finalist. Finalist status does not mean the chapter won the award.
UNAM participation and leadership
The UNAM student chapter has participated in ASCE competitions and recognitions. Its first place in the 2022 international Sustainable Solutions Competition is documented by ASCE.

Individual recognitions
In 2024, ASCE named Valeria Núñez Cantú of Tecnológico de Monterrey to New Faces of Civil Engineering: Collegiate. That year she was also listed among the Student Leadership Award recipients. These are individual recognitions.
